Rebel Against The Retouch: A Model Speaks Out Against Photoshop Misuse

Rebel against the retouch. We've all got skin. All skin has spots, and marks, and chin hairs, and blemishes, and scars. Let's make 'normal' beautiful. ðŸ’•

As a model and a creative, I have often questioned the moral line when it comes to photoshop. Throughout my career, I have been airbrushed to plastic smithereens multiple times, occasionally to the point that I don't recognize myself.

Other times, light retouching to move a stray hair or darken a shadow can fix an image that wouldn't have the same impact without the edit. As a creative, I use photoshop to enhance colors, accentuate lines, and create art. But where do we draw the line between art and deception? I believe photoshop and photo manipulation are incredible tools; but like any tool, can become weapons when used improperly.

Especially when used for deception in advertising. Advertising that tells us we need plastic skin, tight bodies, and teeth whiter than our eyes. When photoshop is used in ads to tell a viewer they aren't okay the way they are and need to buy a product in attempts to grasp a look that's unattainable.

Photo manipulation is a wonderful asset, when used responsibly. It's time to level the scales with our images and balance out what we see vs what we believe and what we know. Social media is an amazing platform where WE have the power to choose what we support and perpetuate. Finally, we are in control of the images we consume, support and post.

Every 'like' is a vote. Simply be aware of what you share, and are promoting. Tools are phenomenal devices that enhance our lives, but like many others, need to be used responsibly.

 Let's make "normal", just as beautiful as "flawless". ðŸ’• #nophotoshop #nofilter #noedits Project + shot by @peterdevito
